Becoming An Outdoors Woman

B.O.W. began as a course at the University of Wisconsin looking into the reasons more women don’t participate in many outdoors activities, such as hunting and fishing. It was determined that women preferred to learn these skills in a non-competitive atmosphere along with other women.

The NH Fish and Game Department together with the NH Wildlife Federation began offering B.O.W. in 1994 at the Rockywold/Deephaven Camps in Holderness NH. The camps are located on the shores of Squam Lake, and have the land and facilities available to present such a program. Over 115 women of all ages participate each year in fall, winter and spring workshops learning skills that range from ice fishing and shooting, to wilderness survival, camping and hiking. The Foundation has granted BOW general operating support.
